The Southern California Plein Air Painters Association, founded
in January 2000, was first known as "The Friday Group". The
original group of painters met in a landscape-painting course
at Irvine Valley College in August of 1999. At the end of
the course, they decided to continue to meet weekly and paint
the landscape in and around Orange County. By February of
2001, the group had grown to 50 members, and formally became
known as the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association
(SOCALPAPA), representing the locale of the membership. The
current membership is over 250 with members in Arizona, Nevada
and Colorado as well as throughout California.
The Mission show is a juried exhibition of sixty plein air
landscape paintings by members of SOCALPAPA. Judges will be
present during the reception evening on April 4th to announce
their decisions for award winning pieces.
